Senator Tom Harkin said that the House of Representatives were showing blatant partisanship by sending the case to the Senate at all. He stated that the American people would have been proud to see the Senate, and that the deliberations should have been open. Senator Paul Wellstone mentioned that his only regret was that the deliberations were closed. He said that it was important that the American people hear the debate.
