President Ronald Reagan delivered his State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress. He talked about the values of work, family, religion and freedom. He set out several objectives: take steps to stabilize the economy, attack social problems through education and other means, make use of the global economic revolution, and budget for international security. He also spoke out against what he called “abortion on-demand.” The speech was interrupted many times by applause. close
