Hailing the passage of the Brady Bill six years ago, the president called for passage of gun control legislation that would require background checks at gun shows, would ban the importation of large capacity ammunition clips, and require manufacturers to include locks on handguns. He criticized the gun lobby for opposing the measures, saying that the legislation would not take guns away or abrogate civil rights guaranteed by the Constitution. close
