Mr. Rochester talked about his book Class Warfare: Besieged Schools, Bewildered Parents, Betrayed Kids and the Attack on Excellence, published by Encounter Books. Professor Rochester is an author, teacher and political scientist who became involved in education issues as a parent. Professor Rochester discussed his view of elementary through high school public education in the United States. He maintains that an inadequate emphasis on scholarship has led to a systemic collapse of standards and suggests that nonacademic diversions have replaced rigorous study and the commitment to excellence has become secondary to promoting diversity and “equity.” After his remarks the author answered questions from members of the audience. close
