Mr. Hoffman discussed his book The Oligarchs, about six men who became enormously powerful by taking advantage of Russia’s transformation to capitalism. The book is published by Public affairs. During the talk, Mr. Hoffman outlined the background of the oligarchs and described how they accumulated their fortunes. He also described the vast influence these men had in Russia during Boris Yeltsin’s presidency and how that changed after Vladimir Putin took over. A lengthy question and answer period followed Mr. Hoffman’s remarks. close
