Ross King talked about his book "Michelangelo and the Pope’s Ceiling", published by Walker and Co. The book tells the story of how Pope Julius commissioned Michelangelo to fresco the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. The author chronicles their often strained relationship as the artist and patron conflicted throughout the ceiling’s creation. The politics of the time also affected Michelangelo’s relationships with other artists. Mr. King also talked about how Michelangelo employed as many as a dozen different artisans to help him with the painting and how Michelangelo chose the subject of his fresco. He showed slides during his presentation. close
