The Washington Century Mr. Solomon talked about his book The Washington Century: Three Families and the Shaping of the Nation’s Capital, published by William Morrow. The book chronicles the history and rise to power of three Washington, D.C. families. The author documents the lives of the Boggs, Cafritz, and Hobson families from the 1930s to 2000. Morris Cafritz was a prominent real estate developer in the greater Washington, D.C. metro area and is largely credited with renovating sections of the city including K Street. Hale Boggs, a native of Louisiana, came to Washington, D.C. as a member of Congress along with his family, including daughter Cokie Roberts and son Tommy, today one of Washington’s most successful lobbyists. Julius Hobson headed up the CORE chapter of Washington, D.C. and led many protests and demonstrations during the Civil Rights era. His son Julius, Jr. is now the American Medical Association’s lobbyist. After his presentation, Mr. Solomon answered questions from members of the audience. close
