Mr. Bush, the oldest son of President Bush, talked about life as a member of the first family, his thoughts about running for Governor in 1994, and the parallels between baseball and politics. Mr. Bush, 44, was born in New Haven, Connecticut and currently serves as managing general partner of the Texas Rangers baseball team. He received his undergraduate degree in history from Yale in 1968 and his M.B.A. from Harvard in 1975. He described the rebound of Texas and the rise of the psychological spirit among the people. Mr. Bush maintained that he remained supportive of his father throughout the Persian Gulf war. He spoke about the increased measures of security being used for himself and his family. “He’s a man of his word,” Mr. Bush stated about his father and praised the President for his actions of the past eight months of his administration. He spoke of his vision about Texas education, which comprises half of the state budget, and the need for improved relations regarding Texas-Mexican relations. “Capitalism for the good of the country,” he believed to be the primary reason for his entrepreneurial bent toward the baseball business. He explained his reasons for working for the Rangers and his responsibilities as a general manager of a major baseball team. Mr. Bush commented that he contributed service as well as money after his graduation from business school. Shortly after completing his education he became director of the Harken Energy Corporation of Midland, Texas in the late 1970s. “Texans are competitive and they’re willing to serve, and sometimes they’re larger than life,” he remarked after being asked to describe the images of residents of his state. He explained the pride of Texans about their state’s size, ethnic diversity, and culture. close
