Jack McCallum talked about his book Leonard Wood: Rough Rider, Surgeon, Architect of American Imperialism, published by New York University Press. In his book, he argued that Leonard Wood was one of the most fascinating but least remembered figures in modern American history. Mr. McCallum used photographs, correspondence and diaries to chronicle the life of the Major General who served as the U.S. Army chief of staff and the commander of the Rough Riders in the Spanish-American War. The author also detailed Leonard Wood’s friendship with Theodore Roosevelt, as well as General Wood’s 1920 presidential campaign. Following his remarks, Mr. McCallum responded to questions and comments from members of the audience. close
