Professor Hazen talked about his book Genesis: The Scientific Quest for Life’s Origins, published by Joseph Henry Press. He described the latest scientific thinking on the origin of life in the universe, explaining that the evolutionary process is accompanied by a trend towards more complexity. He outlined this and other features of the evolution of life and provided a critique of intelligent design. The talk, titled “Why Intelligent Design Is Not Science,” was part of Iowa State University’s National Affairs Series of lectures. Professor Hazen answered questions from the audience following his remarks. close
