The Senate Foreign Relations Committee held a hearing on policy toward Iran in responses to its nuclear development and enrichment programs. In his opening remarks Senator Lugar said he opposed unilateral sanctions against Iran for non-compliances with international inspections, saying that multilateral negotiations would better serve U.S. interests in opening Iran and forcing the government’s hand by gaining support of the Iranian people. Witnesses testified about the potential impact of sanctions on Iran and efforts to persuade Iran to comply with International Atomic Energy Administration inspections. close
