Journalist Tom Brokaw paid tribute to his friends, the late nature photographers Galen and Barbara Rowell, at the annual Rowell Award and Lecture series. His talk was titled “Deleting the Virtual Life.” He talked about exploring the world as oppossed to exploring the Internet. Topics included the environmental degradation and terrorism that endanger such pursuits. He urged stewardship of the globe and its people. Mr. Brokaw responded to questions submitted by members of the audience.

This event was for presenting the Rowell Award for the Art of Adventure to Beth Wald, a freelance photographer whose work has been featured in Newsweek and The New York Times. The event was co-presented by the Rowell Legacy Committee and Yosemite National Institutes at the Hotel Nikko. Co-sponsors were Mountain Light Gallery, The North Face, Outdoor Photographer magazine and The Yosemite Fund. close
