President Bush spoke to an enthusiastic audience at the 108th National Convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. In his remarks he compared operations in Iraq to operations during the Vietnam War, saying that withdrawing U.S. troops would lead to widespread death and suffering. He said one “unmistakable legacy of Vietnam is that the price of America’s withdrawal was paid by millions of innocent citizens whose agonies would add to our vocabulary new terms like boat people, reeducation camps and killing fields.” He also expressed support for Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Malaki, calling him a “good man with a difficult job.” close
