Freelance journalist Doug Grindle was embedded with an Alaska National guard contingent at the U.S. military’s main supply hub in Iraq, called Logistics Support Area Anaconda, located about 40 miles north of Baghdad. The unit was charged with providing security for some of the supply convoys that head in and out of the base.
