Ted Nordhaus and Michael Shellenberge talked about their book Break Through: From the Death of Environmentalism to the Politics of Possibility, published by Houghton Mifflin Co. The authors argue for a new politics that embraces investments and innovations in clean energy to deal with environmental issues. The book is an expansion on their 2004 essay “The Death of Environmentalism: Global Warming Politics in a Post-Environmental World,” which promoted wide-ranging discussion of the premise that the complaint-based, interest group liberalism born in the 1960s and 1970s was failing to achieve the broad social and ecological transformations America and the world need. They responded to questions from members of the audience.
The authors are both managing director of American Environics, a social values research and strategy firm, and co-founders of the Breakthrough Institute. close
