President Bush spoke about the rescue of FARC hostages in Colombia the previous day. The hostages included three U.S. military contractors who had been held by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia since their drug-surveillance plane went down in the jungle in February 2003. They were rescued along with kidnapped presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt, who had been held six years, and 11 Colombian police officers and soldiers. close
