Committee members questioned a panel of women’s rights activists opposed to the nomination of Judge Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court. The witnesses expressed concern over the Supreme Court nominee’s failure to address the issue of abortion. Ms. Michelman’s testimony was very emotional, as she recounted her painful experience in seeking an abortion before the Supreme Court decision of Roe v. Wade in 1973. Ms. Weddington was the attorney for Jane Roe in the 1973 Roe v. Wade abortion case before the U.S. Supreme Court. close
