Jonathan Rauch, editor for the National Journal, talked about President Bush’s proposal to institute a 90-day moratorium on federal regulations as a way of stimulating the economy. He described the moratorium as a period in which federal agencies examine regulations and determine which ones are expensive and unnecessary. He also talked about opposition groups who fear this examination period will result in the elimination of necessary health, safety and environmental safeguards. Mr. Rauch spoke about the media’s influence on this proposal and the perception of “anti-regulation” it will create for the President. close
