Andrew Hacker, and Claudia Dreifus argue that America’s colleges and universities have lost sight of their top priority, to educate students. The authors contend that the nation’s higher education system is interested in making money, according to the authors a $420 billion per year business. Mr. Hacker and Ms. Dreifus are also critical of granting professor tenure status, an act they believe distances professors from their students and creates the need for the use of part-time teachers. David Callahan interviewed the authors about their thoughts on higher education and they also responded to questions from members of the audience. This event at Demos in New York City was co-sponsored by the World Policy Institute. close
