Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid spoke reporters about the gender-based pay discrimination bill, which the Senate was voting on later in the afternoon. He was joined by Lily Ledbetter, who sued her employer for paying her less than her male colleagues in working in identical positions. The suit eventually led to passage of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act which effectively ended a 2007 U.S. Supreme Court decision saying employees had only 180 days to file a pay-discrimination lawsuit.
