Mona Makram-Ebeid, who resigned from Egypt’s Shura Council in June to support the opposition movement, talked about her country’s political future after the removal of President Mohammed Morsi from power by the Egyptian military. She outlined the the political failings of President Morsi and addressed the classification of the events being referred to as a coup, saying that it was a movement of empowered citizens and a popular impeachment. After her remarks she was interviewed by former U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan Wendy Chamberlin and responded to questions from members of the audience.
