President Obama spoke at the University of Central Missouri in the second of a series of speeches on the economy. He spoke about the vulnerability of the current economic recovery, and criticized Republicans for their obstruction of policy proposals to create more jobs and protect the middle class. In his remarks, President Obama said that college costs needed to be controlled and give “a better bang for our buck.” He said part of the reason tuition had been skyrocketing was that state-funded colleges were not being as well funded, but that colleges had to do their part by keeping costs from going up. He said that the University of Central Missouri was a laboratory for this type of innovation when it came to college costs. close
