Mac Griswold talked about her book, The Manor: Three Centuries at a Slave Plantation on Long Island, in which she presents a history of a mansion on Shelter Island, New York that was built in 1652 and owned by the same Quaker family, the Sylvester’s, for eleven generations. In her book, the author reports on her initial research into the property, once 8,000 acres and now 243, its many former inhabitants, and her discovery of slaveholdings.
