Carol Mull, author of The Underground Railroad in Michigan, talked about the Signal of Liberty, an anti-slavery paper published by Reverend Guy Beckley and Theodore Foster in Ann Arbor, Michigan beginning in 1841. The two abolitionists wrote stories of escaped slaves, hoping to arouse support for abolitionism. The papers are held at the Bentley Historical Library at the University of Michigan.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2013 LCV Cities Tour” in Ann Arbor, Michigan, from October 21-25 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Comcast Cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on BookTV on C-SPAN2. close
