Secretary Jeh Johnson and other officials briefed reporters on the federal government’s response to an increase in the number of unaccompanied immigrant children crossing the U.S.-Mexico border. He said that the U.S. was acting “in the best interest of the child” by attempting to reunite the child with a parent or guardian in the U.S. He also said that parents should not send their children to the U.S., because they will be sent to processing centers that could be “hazardous.” close
