Election experts Sherrilyn Ifill and Hans von Spakovsky spoke at a National Press Club Newsmaker event on the potential impact on the 2014 midterm elections of state voter identification laws and court rulings on those laws. The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals had recently reinstated a Texas voter identification law allowing it to be implemented in the midterm elections despite a lower court judge ruling the law unconstitutional. The Fifth Circuit Court did not rule on the merits but determined that it was too close to the election to change the rules. close
