Jim Bruseth talked about La Belle, one of four ships used by Robert de La Salle when he explored the Gulf of Mexico in the 1680s. The ship was discovered in 1997, and its conservation stretched the technology of preservation and its archeology added a new chapter to the history of Texas.
The exhibit “La Belle: The Ship That Changed History” was organized by the Bullock Texas State History Museum with the Texas Historical Commission, the Musée National de la Marine, and Texas A&M University.
C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2014 LCV Cities Tour” in Austin, Texas, from December 2-6, to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Time Warner Cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on BookTV on C-SPAN2. close
