The Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation Security held a hearing on the Federal Air Marshal Service’s (FAMS) readiness and aviation security. FAMS is a law enforcement agency tasked with protecting commercial airlines from terrorist attacks. The witnesses were Roderick Allison, the director of FAMS, and Tim Canoll, the president of the Air Line Pilots Association. Mr. Canoll in his testimony discussed the Federal Flight Deck Officer program, which allows flight crew members to carry firearms on flights after completing a TSA (Transportation Security Administration) training program. close
