Panelists talked about the religious basis of Islamist terrorism and how or whether it should factor into a comprehensive US strategy to defeat extremists. The topic of the first panel, “The Challenge of Extremism,” was the role Islam plays in inciting terrorism and if the Koran is being manipulated by extremists. In the second panel, “Options for the Islamic World and the United States,” panelists discussed what the U.S. role and strategy should be to counter Islamic terrorism.
