President Obama marked the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act, calling on Congress to update the law and urging citizens to exercise the right to vote. The Voting Rights Act was signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson August 6, 1965. Attorney General Loretta Lynch and Representative John Lewis (D-G) attended, along with other voting rights advocates. close
