The subcommittee heard testimony from Secretary Christopher on the Department of State’s fiscal year 1994 budget, amounting to $4.438 billion, a $61 million increase from the previous year. In his testimony, Secretary Christopher also commented on the situation in Bosnia, where a civil war has continued since 1992. Calls for international intervention in the conflict have increased in recent weeks as reports of atrocities have continued to come out of the region. He also commented on the current political situation in the Russian Republic. close
