The Tortured Life of Scofield Thayer
C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2015 LCV Cities Tour” in Worcester, Massachusetts, from October 17-23 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Charter Cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2.

Jim Dempsey talked about his book, The Tortured Life of Scofield Thayer, about the life of the editor of The Dial, a magazine featuring the work of transcendentalists and modernists in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Mr. Thayer suffered from mental illness and had controversial private and public lives.
