Speakers talked about Senator Blanche K. Bruce in honor of African-American History Month. Senator Blanche K. Bruce (R-MS) was the second African-American member of the U.S. Senate and the first to be elected to a full term, from 1875-1881. He was born into slavery in Virginia but after the Civil War became a planter in Mississippi.
