Secretary Aspin briefed reporters in the Pentagon on the administration’s plans to reorganize the Strategic Defense Initiative Office to reflect the changing priorities of the new administration. The office, which had been created to organize efforts to create a space based missile defense system, will now be called the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization, and will concentrate on a ground based anti-missile defense system. It also will no longer report directly to the secretary of defense. close
