Treasury Secretary Jack Lew talked about the global economy and the role of the U.S. financial system in it during an event held by the Peterson Institute for International Economics before the fall meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank in Washington, D.C. He talked about the importance of the U.S.'s role in global trade and predicted that, despite objections from many politicians, the in-progress Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal would end up being ratified. Mr. Lew also addressed China’s increasing leadership in the global economy as its currency became a more powerful force and the country’s population and manufacturing output continued to grow. close
