Japanese-Americans in San Jose, California Jimi Yamaichi gave a tour of the Japanese-American Museum of San Jose, which has a full scale recreation of a barracks room where displaced Japanese Americans were forced to live during World War II. On February 19, 1942, President Franklin Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, sending over 100,000 people of Japanese ancestry to relocation centers. Mr. Yamaichi experienced this relocation and built this recreation to give visitors a sense of what life was like.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2017 LCV Cities Tour” in San Jose, California, from February 4-10 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Comcast cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2. close
