Professor Paul Kennedy talked about how the U.S. mobilized its industry and the military to fight in World War I. Professor Kennedy paid particular attention to stories from New York City and discussed its role in the war effort. He concluded his remarks with a look at the war’s legacy. The U.S. entered World War I on April 6, 1917, after President Woodrow Wilson signed a Congressional declaration of war against Germany. This talk was the keynote address for “America in a Time of War: City, Economy and Politics, 1914-1918,” a conference on World War I hosted by Columbia University. close
