The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee held a hearing on forest management techniques to mitigate wildfires. Forest management experts testified on the negative effects of wildfires on the environment and economy, and offered suggestions on reducing the likelihood of and damage caused by wildfires. Senators Orrin Hatch (R-UT), John Thune (R-SD), Jon Tester (D-MT), and Steve Daines (R-MT) also testified in support of three wildfire-related bills they were sponsoring. Following the hearing, Committee Chair John Barrasso (R-WY) responded to some questions from reporters. close
