U.S. Military Academy history professor Samuel Watson presented a talk titled “The Army before and after Andrew Jackson.” Professor Watson is the author of the 2012 book, Jackson’s Sword: The Army Officer Corps on the American Frontier, 1810-1821, and a 2013 sequel titled Peacekeepers and Conquerors: The Army Officer Corps on the American Frontier, 1821-1846. Professor Watson argued that the Army officer corps provided stability as the nation expanded into frontier regions. close
