A bipartisan group of senators held a news conference on the re-authorization of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). Section 702 was set to expire at the end of December 2017, and the senators asked that the re-authorization legislation and its provisions be brought up and debated on the Senate floor. Senators Rand Paul (R-KY), Ron Wyden (D-OR), Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Mike Lee (R-UT), and Steve Daines (R-MT) pushed for slowing down reauthorization of (FISA), to allow Congress to build consensus and not attach it to a temporary spending bill. close
