In her annual Christmas message, Queen Elizabeth II talked about the comforts of home, terrorist attacks earlier in the year in Manchester and London, and damage done by hurricanes in the Caribbean, and the Grenfell Tower fire in London. She also spoke about her husband Prince Phillip, who announced earlier in the year his retirement from public engagements.

The tradition of the Royal Christmas message dates back to 1932, with a radio address by King George V. Queen Elizabeth II made the first televised address in 1957. close
