The U.N. General Assembly voted 128-9 to approve a resolution condemning the U.S.'s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital city and the planned move of its embassy to that city from Tel Aviv. Thirty-five members abstained. U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley warned U.N. member states that the U.S. was taking note of how votes were cast, and said that as the biggest contributor of funds to the United Nations, the U.S. could find better ways to spend its money. Ambassador Haley’s overtures were rebuked by other representatives to the U.N., who said the U.S. was in violation of previous Security Council resolutions and no longer a credible mediator in the Middle East peace process. close
