At his weekly briefing, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) repeated his argument that House Democrats were threatening to shut down the government over what he called unrelated issues. Despite Democrats' opposition, Speaker Ryan said he was “confident” a short-term stopgap bill would get approved. He told reporters he had not seen President Trump’s latest tweet in which he said funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) should not be included in a short-term bill to fund the government, but said the president fully supports passing what the Republicans bring to the floor. close
