The Trump administration hosted a White House summit on the opioid epidemic. First lady Melania Trump began the event by reading a letter from a woman who lost her son to an overdose. She was followed by a panel discussion, moderated by White House Counselor Kellyanne Conway, with Cabinet secretaries who talked about treatment and prevention initiatives. Ms. Conway then led a second discussion with another group of Cabinet secretaries to address their respective law enforcement efforts to combat the epidemic. Among them were Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen. Then, President Trump spoke about tougher penalties for drug companies and drug dealers. close
