President Trump posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor to World War II veteran First Lieutenant Garlin Conner for his bravery in placing himself in the line of fire to save his battalion during a counterattack from German troops on January 24, 1945. He went on to earn several other awards for his service in the U.S. Army. He died in 1997. Pauline Conner accepted the award on behalf of her late husband. close
