Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell and two of his predecessors, Janet Yellen and Ben Bernanke, talked about the economy at the annual meeting of the American Economic Association. Chair Powell said he would not resign if President Trump asked him to and acknowledged that no meetings had been scheduled between the two. In addition, he said the U.S. economy has “good momentum” but that the Federal Reserve would be “patient” about raising interest rates in 2019. Neil Irwin moderated the panel discussion. close
