British House of Commons lawmakers voted 358-234 to advance Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s amended deal on the U.K.'s exit from the European Union, also known as “Brexit.” The vote came a week after the prime minister’s Conservative Party secured a majority government in the general election and the vote on the Brexit bill paves the way for the nation to leave the EU on January 31, 2020. Prior to the vote, the prime minister and other party leaders led the House of Commons in a debate about several parts of the amended bill. Speakers in this portion included Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn and Scottish National Party parliamentary leader Ian Blackford. close
