North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper (D) held a briefing on the state’s response to the coronavirus pandemic. Several topics were discussed, including increased testing capacity, efforts to protect staff and inmates at state prisons, and concerns surrounding unemployment, with thousands still not receiving their benefits. After updating the state’s coronavirus numbers, Governor Cooper addressed the beginning of the first phase of the state reopening, which was to occur later in the day. Even though the state was to begin to reopen, the governor stressed that “the stay-at-home order” was still in effect, although in phase one, there were more allowable reasons to leave home. close
