The Justice Department held a news conference announcing the settlement reached with Purdue Pharma over their role in the opioid epidemic. Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen announced Purdue Pharma agreed to plead guilty to criminal charges and pay more than $8.3 billion in fines. The settlement also includes members of the Sackler family--the owners of Purdue Pharma--who will pay additional fines for civil settlements. close
