House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) led the chamber in a moment of silence to honor U.S. Capitol Police officers Brian Sicknick, who died as a result of last week’s attack on the U.S. Capitol, and Howard Liebengood, who died by suicide in the days following the riot. Speaker Pelosi also swore in two new House members, Republicans María Elvira Salazar (FL) and David Valadao (CA). Both were in quarantine during opening day of the 117th Congress after testing positive for COVID-19. close
